Because trees are not particularly interested in colour charts. Real wood naturally varies in tone and grain, even within the same species.

Yes. Wood is a natural material and needs a little time to get comfortable in its new home.

We recommend leaving the panels flat in the room where they will be installed for around 24–48 hours before installation, under normal indoor conditions.

Wood reacts naturally to changes in temperature and humidity. Allowing it to adjust before installation helps reduce unnecessary movement afterwards.

Think of it as letting the wood settle in before making things permanent.

Keep them indoors, dry and stored flat. Avoid damp floors, direct heat and strong sunlight.

Basically, treat them better than the average piece of construction timber.

We recommend letting them acclimatise first.

We know waiting is not the exciting part, but it is considerably more exciting than fixing problems later.

Clean, dry, solid and reasonably flat. Loose paint, dust, grease and unstable surfaces should be dealt with before installation.

Not perfectly, but reasonably flat. Woodlen panels are designed to transform a wall, not perform structural miracles.

Larger bumps, hollows or loose areas should be corrected before installation.

We recommend removing it first. Your panels might be firmly glued to the wallpaper, but that does not help much if the wallpaper decides to leave the wall.

Yes. Woodlen panels are designed so you can install them yourself at home.

You will need a few basic tools for measuring, cutting and fixing the panels, so make sure you have everything you need before starting. A little preparation makes the whole process much easier.

Use a polymer-based flexible mounting adhesive suitable for wood and the surface underneath.

The flexibility allows the adhesive to accommodate the small natural movements that can occur in real wood as indoor conditions change.

With a plan.

Especially with geometric designs such as HEX, establish a straight reference line and test the layout before reaching for the adhesive.

Nature does not manufacture in batches. We try not to make it look like it does.

Yes. Panels can be cut to fit edges, corners, sockets and other details.

Yes. Panels can be cut around electrical fittings.

Always disconnect the electricity before working around sockets and switches, and use a qualified electrician whenever electrical components need to be moved.

A little, yes. Wood reacts naturally to humidity and temperature.

Proper storage, acclimatisation, installation and stable indoor conditions help keep movement to a minimum. Real wood is alive in that sense — thankfully, not enough to walk away.

Minor movement can occur with natural wood and often settles once the panel is properly installed.

Unless stated otherwise on the product page, our natural panels are supplied as clean, untreated wood.

You can leave them exactly as they are or finish them later to match your interior.

Yes. Oil can deepen the colour, protect the surface and bring out even more of the grain.

Always test your chosen finish on a spare piece first. Wood has opinions about colour too.

Yes. Untreated wood gives you the freedom to adjust the final tone.

Test the finish first, especially on aged or heavily textured surfaces, as different areas of the wood may absorb colour differently.

Yes. Light sanding can be used to adjust or refresh an untreated surface.

Just remember that sanding a hand-aged panel will also remove some of the texture we worked quite hard to put there.

Technically, yes.

Although if you buy beautiful real wood and immediately cover all of it with paint, we may have questions.

If painting is part of the design, test it on a spare piece first.

Usually, less is more. A soft brush, dry microfibre cloth or vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment is enough for everyday cleaning.

Avoid soaking untreated wood or using aggressive cleaning chemicals.

One of the nice things about real wood is that many small marks can actually be repaired.

Depending on the surface, light sanding or local refinishing may be enough. Try doing that with a printed wood pattern.

Untreated panels in a normal indoor environment require very little maintenance beyond occasional dusting.

Which gives you more time to stand back and admire the wall.

Yes. A little extra gives you room for cutting, pattern matching and the occasional measurement that was definitely correct five minutes ago.

It is also useful to keep a few spare pieces for future repairs or changes.

Of course. Just keep in mind that natural wood can vary between production batches.

If you are completing one continuous wall, we recommend ordering the full amount at once.

You can tell us the general look you prefer, but we cannot make natural wood repeat the exact same grain or tone.
